The clinical advisory service is provided by a team of consultant microbiologists. Clinical advice is given for the diagnosis and management of patients with infection. In addition, the consultant team provides antimicrobial stewardship and infection control leadership to the organisation.

The Laboratory provides the following services:

  • Occupational health screening tests.
  • Antibiotic and clinical advice about the diagnosis and management of patients with infection.
  • Support to consultants in communicable disease control and their colleagues in the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
  • Local surveillance and special studies in infectious disease.
  • Investigation and support in community and national outbreaks of communicable disease.

The laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2012
