Route B travel feedback
As part of West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust’s (WSFT) outline planning approval for a replacement hospital the Trust agreed to improve walking and cycling links and active travel infrastructure from the north, east and west of the town. This is to encourage the use of sustainable modes of travel to the new hospital site at Hardwick Manor which is adjacent to the current site.
What are you planning to do?
As part of this work, and with the support of Suffolk County Council, it is suggested that a 20mph speed limit zone on Rembrandt Way and Barons Road is implemented to improve the safety for pedestrians and cyclists accessing the new hospital.
To support the suggested plans, new 20mph signage and traffic calming raised speed tables along Rembrandt Way and Barons Road would be introduced. These measures, if approved, would not be introduced immediately but would take affect prior to the opening of the new hospital, currently scheduled for completion in 2030. Ultimately, the main aim of the plans is to improve safety for both those accessing the hospital and residents within the surrounding area.

Additional information
The introduction of a reduced speed limit of 20mph on Rembrandt Way and Barons Road requires a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). Further details about TRO’s can be viewed by going to the Suffolk County Council website. Any comments submitted to WSFT as part of this feedback opportunity will be considered as the draft plans are developed and before any formal TRO consultation, with local residents, by Suffolk County Council is undertaken at a later date.
