Suffolk NHS staff get back to nature with wellbeing boost

Hospital and community NHS staff in West Suffolk have been getting back to nature with a week of free activities designed to support their mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Organisations from across the county joined with West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust for their second ‘Love Yourself Week’, encouraging staff to look after themselves, so they can better look after patients.

The week included drawing and photography classes run by Art Branches and a sleeping well session hosted by Suffolk Mind.

The autumnal themed week also included access to delicious warming food recipes, a chance to win tai chi sessions and opportunities to focus on mental wellbeing with the Trust’s staff psychology support team. The sessions have been made available to all Trust staff through catch up recordings online.

The Trust has also worked closely with Parkrun enthusiasts within the hospital and community teams, encouraging colleagues to hop out of bed on a Saturday morning and walk, run or jog their way around locations including Nowton Park and Puddlebrook Playing Fields.

Staff also joined a virtual workout led by British TV legend, Mr Motivator, who put them through their paces while wearing his iconic lycra workout gear.

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust’s director of workforce and communications Jeremy Over said: “Our focus is always on patient care, but it’s really important that our staff take time to look after themselves and each other first, so that they are ready to look after our patients.

“I’m delighted how popular our second ever Love Yourself Week was. It is a great opportunity for our staff, who have worked incredibly hard throughout the pandemic, to unwind and focus on themselves.

"The Trust has made a huge effort to ensure that every single staff member has access to wellbeing support throughout the pandemic, such as access to our brilliant staff psychological support team, accommodation, and free hot drinks at work.”

Local businesses who’d like to find out more about supporting the next Love Yourself Week, should contact linda.buckland@wsh.nhs.uk.
