New ward work gathers pace
We are calling on patients and residents to bear with us during the accelerated construction of a new 32-bed ward at West Suffolk Hospital.
The extension to our Bury St Edmunds hospital will be mostly constructed off-site before being craned into place.
But we recognise that patients, visitors, and people living near the Hardwick Lane site could still experience noise and disruption during that process, with workers on site 24-hours a day for a 10-day period at the beginning of May.
To minimise any disturbance at night, vehicles will switch off engines when not in use and silence their reversing sirens. Lighting will be also be kept to a minimum.
West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Steve Dunn said: "We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption this work may cause, but this new decant ward is vital to minimise disruption to patients while we carry out maintenance work in the current building.
"The ward is designed so that it can be put in place quickly and also has the potential to be moved and re-used in the future."
The accelerated construction is scheduled to take place from 8am on Saturday 1 May to 8pm on Monday 10 May.
