Enabling works begin on new hospital site

As plans for a new hospital progress, we have commenced important enabling works to discharge pre-commencement planning conditions, for example, implementing the ecology compensation strategy. The first part is to conserve the fungi found on the site by moving it, this involves the translocation of 1 hectare of turf from its current location to a new site with suitable soil DNA.

Habitat creation, including hedge planting, fencing and tree planting works, will be undertaken in the planting season at the end of March 2024. Future works are planned to continue.

The next phase of enabling works after the turf translocation is the archaeological investigations (trial trenches). Once this is complete, we will commence structural planting to the southern and northern boundaries to mitigate the visual impact of the new hospital building and to allow as much time as possible for the trees to grow prior to the commencement of construction works.
