How we are run

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is managed by the Trust Board which consists of executive directors, including the chief executive and non-executive directors, and is led by the chair. We achieved foundation trust status in 2011 which enables us to have greater local accountability and financial freedoms.

The Council of Governors is part of our governance structure and holds the Board of Directors to account. This means it has responsibility for appointing our non-executive directors and our auditors and can challenge the decisions of the Trust Board. Some of our governors are elected by the Trust’s public and staff membership, while others are appointed by our stakeholders such as our local council and clinical commissioning group.

The various departments and divisions of the Trust report to the chief executive via our chief operating officer.

Services provided by the Trust are mostly commissioned by NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group and our work is based on the strategic direction established by NHS England and the Department of Health.

We have close working relationships with other providers of health and social care services across Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire.
