Sign Up to Safety Pledges

Picture1Patient safety is a priority at West Suffolk Hospital. We have signed up to the ‘Sign up to Safety’ initiative, which is designed to help realise the ambition of making the NHS the safest healthcare system in the world. We are developing our patient safety improvement plans based on the Sign up to Safety actions we have committed to.

The five Sign up to Safety pledges are:

Put safety first

Commit to reduce avoidable harm in the NHS by half and make public the goals and plans developed locally.

Continually learn

Make their organisations more resilient to risks, by acting on the feedback from patients and by constantly measuring and monitoring how safe their services are.

Honesty

Be transparent with people about their progress to tackle patient safety issues and support staff to be candid with patients and their families if something goes wrong.

Collaborate

Take a leading role in supporting local collaborative learning, so that improvements are made across all of the local services that patients use.

Support

Help people understand why things go wrong and how to put them right. Give staff the time and support to improve and celebrate the progress. Follow the links on the left of this page to read about each pledge and how we have committed to it.

Sign up to Safety is for everybody, in every part of the NHS: whichever area you work in our safety pledges unite us in continually striving to make the care we give to our patients as safe as possible.

Supporting our pledges to the campaign, “Making Your Stay Safe” is patient information helping patients and staff work together to create the right conditions for safer care. This takes the format of eye-catching posters that you will see displayed around the Trust and smaller A5 information inserts which will be in your patient’s bedside information folder — please don’t forget to make sure this is within reach for your patient to read. Leaflets are also available for patients and relatives to take away if they wish and can be found in many of the leaflet racks around the Trust. Further information about Sign up to Safety and the pledges can be found at www.england.nhs.uk/signuptosafety
